Description:
Jean-Henri Fabre (1823–1915) was something like those whose customs, habits, and mysteries he had studied indefatigably throughout his long life: insects. A thin man with a sharp nose and an attentive gaze, from which nothing escaped, Fabre achieved everything in life on his own: he chose a vocation to his liking and made the whole world believe in himself, exclusively by his own efforts he created a magnificent laboratory for the study of insects, brought the science of insects out of dusty halls with dried beetles and butterflies to the sun-baked expanses, where all the exhibits of scientific collections dug holes, hunted, reproduced and cared for offspring.
Persistent, persistent, infinitely hardworking, Fabre made a real revolution in science, but the general public recognized and loved him thanks to his inspired stories about the life of butterflies, spiders, beetles, wasps and other small inhabitants of our world. More than one generation of nature lovers and simply enthusiastic people grew up on his stories about insects, which are on a par with "The Life of Animals" by Alfred Brehm.
"Insects. They are the true owners of the land. There are a billion billion of them, more than there are stars in our galaxy... Fabre should be read by everyone, just as once in a lifetime you need to look through a microscope and look at the stars through a telescope" (V. Peskov).
