Finds of the ancient past of the Poltava region: the beginning of the processing of artifacts of ancient times
In the Poltava region, in the village of Glinskoye of the Opishnyansky community of the Poltava region, archaeological research is being carried out on the Glinsky archaeological complex . The last expedition began in June of this year and lasted 12 days under the leadership of Yuri Pugolovko, the leader of the expedition and a candidate of historical sciences. Research on this complex began in 2011 and continues to this day.

During the last expedition, excavations continued, which began in 2019. Objects were found at the site, according to preliminary conclusions, belonging to the second half of the 12th century, as well as an object dated to the middle-end of the 14th century.
Of particular interest was the burial of a woman who was probably the victim of an attack on the settlement after the Battle of Vorskla in 1399. Her burial was random, not accompanied by special rites, and her head was unnaturally located on her side, and she held a knife in her hands, probably trying to protect herself from attack.
During the excavations, a button, probably part of a garment, was also found at the right hand of a female skeleton. Temple rings made of a copper alloy, possibly bronze, were found on the temples. Along with the burial, various items were found, including fragments of Byzantine amphoras, tableware, probably brought from the Crimea, and jugs made off the coast of the Sea of Azov. During the excavations, fragments of a mirror and part of an arrowhead were found.

In total, two burials and more than 60 individual items were found, including buttons and a whorl.

Now archaeologists are starting to study the found artifacts. Items have already been cleaned and washed. Further, they will be described, photographs taken, and, possibly, analyzes will be carried out, in particular, the study of ceramics.
Of particular interest are anthropologists who study human skeletons. The purpose of their research is to obtain more detailed information about the life of the inhabitants of the ancient settlement in Glinsk.

In addition, specialists will study the bones of animals. Perhaps paleobotanists will be involved to study nutrition and agriculture in the settlement.
After completion of the office processing of artifacts, it is planned to transfer them to the funds of the historical and cultural reserve "Bilsk" before the end of the year.

The Glinsky archaeological complex is a monument of national importance and dates back to the period from the end of the 8th to the 14th century. It consists of several settlements, burial mounds, settlements and positions located next to the fortifications.
The origin of the Glinsky archaeological complex is associated with the Slavic tribe of the northerners. This complex was of great importance as the center of an early medieval settlement. Its existence ceased after 1399, probably as a result of a pogrom during the Battle of Vorskla.
Finds made during the study of the Glinsky archaeological complex reveal many interesting details about the life and culture of the inhabitants of this ancient settlement, namely, the developed handicraft and colorful skills, as well as trade relations and exchanges between this settlement and other regions.
