Description:
Buttons with numbers, as well as alphanumeric images, were introduced in units of the Russian army in December 1829. So far, it has not been possible to find any information about the specific differences between buttons with the same numbers that belonged to different parts of the army. A graphic representation of numbers (with a tail, without a tail, straight, inclined, etc....) can hardly be used for attribution, since certain differences could be made by button manufacturers. In addition, during the period of use of buttons with numbers, there were repeated changes in the numbering of parts, which further confuses the process of determination. In June 1862, most likely due to a significant (more than 2 times) increase in the number of army regiments, the numbers and letters on the buttons were abolished and smooth buttons without a pattern were sewn onto the uniforms. The presented button could be worn by the lower ranks of the following regiments and units of the RIA:
From 1829 to 1833 - 19th Jaeger Regiment
from 1829 to 1833 - Shlisselburg Jäger Regiment
from 1829 to 1833 - Smolensk Uhlan Regiment
from 1833 to 1835 - Vladimir Infantry Regiment
from 1833 to 1835 - (Uglitz) Field Marshal Prince Saken Jaeger Regiment
from 1833 to 1851 – Ukrainian Uhlan Regiment
from 1835 to 1856 - Yekaterinburg Infantry Regiment
from 1835 to 1856 - Tomsk Infantry Regiment
from 1856 to 1862 - Kostroma Infantry Regiment
from 1858 to 1862 - 19th Caucasian Line Battalion
