I'll start with your last question about history. Naturally, this brooch, like any other old thing, has its own history and, in my subjective opinion, it is much richer than any other brooch (well, except for the fibula). You know, I myself would like to know the history of this thing, but unfortunately I could not find anything, (and I searched diligently) my ownership history is quite banal. I have been living in Naples for 15 years and I am fond of antiques and in one of the weekly rounds of antique shops I came across this brooch, believe me, over the years a huge number of wonderful things have been in my hands. Goosebumps, yes, goosebumps, that's the feeling I experienced when I picked it up.
It was not possible to buy right away, there was not enough money, a sleepless night and in the morning I was already standing under the door of the store with money in my hands, waiting for the seller. That's how it became mine. Now, with regard to the date of manufacture and material. At first I thought that it was a turtle shell, but knowledgeable people persuaded me in favor of amber, but amber is not my element, so it is difficult to give you a clear answer from which amber this product is made. Approximate minimum!!!!!!!! The age of the brooch is 200 years, the minimum. A very interesting clasp, with the naked eye you can see that it is made by hand. Considering that Naples is the center of archaeological finds and is located at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, it can be assumed (again, this is only a hypothesis) that it was found somewhere in the frozen lava, this can explain some melted areas and cracks or on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, where many years ago pieces of amber were thrown ashore by the surf. There are many questions, but there can be no doubt that the thing is old. And finally, the price, again a very subjective question, perhaps this brooch is much more expensive, but I am the seller, and you are the buyer and we are at the auction, so no one canceled the bargaining. Thank you for listening, this brooch is still a mystery to me...
