Перші фрагменти метеорита Muonionalusta були знайдені в 1906 році в окрузі Норботтен на півночі Швеції неподалік від річки Муоніоельвен.
Дослідники сильно розходяться в думках про ймовірне часу падіння цього метеорита на Землю: за різними припущеннями, ця подія відбулася від 1 млн. До 14 тис. років тому.
