The enormous prevalence of the variational form, its centuries-old existence and the extraordinary diversity of species - these are the reasons that required a sufficiently detailed presentation. Due to the considerable size of the chapter, it is published as a separate publication.
This part of the textbook, like its first volume, contains more material than is usually covered in the course. Thus, the teacher can vary the content of the course depending on the level and preparedness of students, as well as on the range of his own scientific and pedagogical interests.

Предлагаемая работа представляет собой главу учебника «Анализ музыкальных произведений», предназначенного для студентов консерваторий — музыковедов и композиторов. Первый том учебника был написан совместно с Л. А. Мазелем и опубликован в 1967 году. Его продолжением должны явиться главы, посвященные формам более крупным, чем период.
Огромная распространенность вариационной формы, многовековое ее существование и чрезвычайное разнообразие видов — таковы причины, потребовавшие достаточно развернутого изложения. Ввиду значительных размеров главы она публикуется как отдельное издание.
