Description:
Since the seventies of the 19th century, the name of Konstantin Apollonovich Savitsky has been constantly found among the participants of traveling art exhibitions, along with the names of the largest representatives of this trend in art. The appearance of new paintings by the artist was expected by the public with great interest, and often Savitsky's works were in the center of attention of critics. In the reviews of each traveling exhibition and in large summary articles, V. V. Stasov always spoke of Savitsky as one of the most characteristic artists of the Wanderers. I. N. Kramskoy considered Savitsky a loyal and devoted member of the Partnership. Savitsky also played a significant role in the development of art education in Russia as a teacher (in St. Petersburg, Moscow and Penza) and as the founder of the Penza Art School. After the death of Savitsky, despite the fact that his works were in the largest museums of the country, the name of their creator almost disappears from the pages of art history literature and the artist is half-forgotten. This publication presents an essay on the life and work of the most prominent Russian artist.
