Description:

Луцій Септімій Север - римський імператор, що правив з квітня 193 по 4 лютого 211 року. Народився в африканському місті Лептіс-Магна у сім'ї вершників. Під час правління Марка Аврелія та Коммода він зробив кар'єру в імперській адміністрації: керував різними провінціями, у 189 році обіймав посаду консула-суфекта. Взимку 192/193 років, коли імперію охопила криза, Луцій був намісником Верхньої Паннонії та командував сильною армією. Солдати проголосили його імператором після загибелі Пертінакса (квітень 193). Оголосивши своєю метою помста за загиблого, Північ рушила на Рим і здобула майже безкровну перемогу над новим імператором Дідієм Юліаном, який був убитий. Потім Луцій розгромив двох інших претендентів на владу - Пісценія Нігера, який контролював східні провінції (193-195 роки), та Клодія Альбіна, намісника Британії (196-197 роки).
