Adolph Traugott Arthur Dattan (October 22, 1854, Rudersdorf - August 14, 1924, Naumburg) was a German-Russian businessman, co-owner of the large trading house Kunst and Albers in Vladivostok.
He was also a patron of the arts and popularizer of science.
During the First World War, he was exiled to Siberia because of suspicions of espionage.
The company under Duttan's management began to grow rapidly, both in terms of revenue and reach: in the 1880s, branch stores were opened in the Amur region and further inland. In total, by 1914, Kunst & Albers had built a network of 30 stores in the Russian Far East and adjacent Chinese territories. The management of the company required frequent moves on undeveloped lands, including in winter on horses and sleighs.
In 1886, Duttan was already an auctioneer and had a profit share of 33%. In the same year, he officially accepted Russian citizenship, since the new law did not allow foreigners to acquire land in the border areas of the Russian Empire. From that moment on, the company bought all real estate in the Far East in the name of Dattan.
After Gustav Kunst left the company in 1904, Dattan began to own half of the company's shares in Vladivostok, as well as the company store of the same name in Hamburg. This store was engaged in the purchase and shipment of goods from Europe to the Russian Far East.
Shortly before Dattan's death in 1924, his holdings in Russia were re-registered to Alfred Albers in order to avoid the nationalization of the company under inheritance law.

In 1887, Dattan was appointed to the post of German trade representative in Vladivostok and the Amur region. In 1904, the German emperor granted him the title of vice-consul, and by 1908 Dattan began to sign reports sent to Berlin with the words "Imperial German Consul". In 1911, career officials were hired at the consulate, and Duttan was removed from office, retaining, however, the right to sign as "imperial German consul".
At the same time, Dattan also rose in the Russian rank: in 1900, Nicholas II appointed him a trade councilor, in 1904 he became a state councilor, and in 1911 - a full state councilor. At the beginning of 1914, Dattan, along with his wife and children, received hereditary nobility. Basically, the reason for obtaining these ranks was his efforts as a philanthropist, who financed the first higher educational institution of Vladivostok, the Oriental Institute; Dattan was an honorary curator there.
In addition, Dattan received a total of 24 awards, half of them in Russia. Five of these insignia were bestowed on him for his patronage of the sciences.
During his stay in Naumburg, he married Marie Fendler, with whom he returned to Vladivostok. Seven children were born in the marriage. In 1901, Dattan moved with his family to Naumburg, but continued to spend most of the year in Vladivostok.
During the First World War, his sons died on various fronts: the eldest, Alexander, was an officer in the Russian army, and Adolf was a German officer who fought on the Western Front.
