The authors did not set out to cover all aspects related to the culture and history of ancient Pskov in such a brief article. They confined themselves to the analysis of Pskov painting, trying to determine the general meaning of the evolution of Pskov art from the XII to the XVI century. The boundaries of this period are determined by the history of the city itself - until the XIII century we do not know the monuments of easel Pskov painting, and in the XVI century Pskov loses its political independence and with it all the features of its art.
