Вихід марки та конверту присвячений ювілею обсерваторії – 250 років з дати її заснування у 1771 році. Відтак Львівська обсерваторія вважається однією з найстаріших обсерваторій Східної Європи.

На конверті зображено телескоп АЗТ-14, що знаходиться на заміській станції спостережень обсерваторії в смт Брюховичі.
