Developed by collectors for collectors, this transpress lexicon "Numismatics" is an attempt to convey basic knowledge about coins, medals, stamps and banknotes without being able to replace a textbook on numismatics. When selecting keywords, authors, publishers, and reviewers tried to take into account all areas of numismatics and related disciplines. The text focuses on the minting of coins from the 16th century; Pre-minted money, as well as ancient and medieval coins, are presented in less detail. The decisive factor for this concept was that more and more new coins were collected particularly intensively. In contrast to the older numismatic reference books mentioned, the first prominent deceased numismatists and medalists were marked with short biographies and offered selected lists of their works. Numerous illustrations in the text, shown in the original size, are intended to increase the informative value of the vocabulary.
It turned to Schrötter's dictionary for the names of medieval and Oriental coins. The bibliography at the end of the volume lists the main sources used.
