A bright page in the annals of the financial and credit system of Ukraine was written by the turbulent years of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921. One of the first legislative acts of the Central Rada of the Ukrainian People's Republic was the law on the establishment of the Ukrainian State Bank, which played an important role in the liberation struggle of Ukrainians of those years, as well as in their acquisition of their own banking experience. Streamlining the state life of Ukraine, the Central Rada decided to issue Ukrainian banknotes. The 1917 state credit note with a face value of 100 rubles also reflected the ideological foundations of Ukraine's state-building. In particular, the denomination on the first Ukrainian banknote was indicated in four languages - Ukrainian, Russian, Polish and Hebrew (Yiddish). Thus, the young state declared respect for representatives of all nations and nationalities living in the ethnic territories of Ukraine, confirmed their freedom and equal rights with the titular nation.
In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917 - 1921. and the creation of the first central bank of Ukraine The National Bank of Ukraine issued a souvenir banknote "100 karbovanets", which reproduces the design of the first Ukrainian banknote - a state credit note with a face value of 100 rubles. The image of the trident on this banknote was one of the main factors in the establishment of the Grand Duke's sign of Volodymyr the Great as the State Emblem of the Ukrainian People's Republic and was almost two months ahead of the relevant law of the Central Rada on the State Emblem.
The turbulent times of the Ukrainian revolution of 1917 - 1921 are a highlight in the history of Ukraine's finaricial and credit system. A law establishing Ukraine's state bark was one of the first regulations adopted by the Central Council of the Ukrainian People's Republic. The bank played an important role in Ukrainians' fight for independence and acquiring experience in banking.
Bringing Ukraine's public affairs in order, the Central Cound decided to issue Ukrainian money.
The National Bank of Ukraine issues the souvenir banknote "100 Karbovantsiv" to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian revolution of 1917 - 1921 and the establishment of Ukraine's first state bank. The banknote's design repeats that of the first Ukrainian banknote - the 100 karbovantsiv state banknote issued in 1917.
The fact that the first Ukrainian banknote featured the trident, a symbol used by Prince Volodymyr the Great, contributed to the adoption of the trident as the coat of arms of the Ukrainian People's Republic. A decision to depict the trident on the banknote was taken two months before the trident was proclaimed the republic's coat of arms.
The banknote also reflected the republic's world philosophy - the first Ukrainian banknote's denomination was written in four languages: Ukrainian, Russian, Polish and Yiddish. The new state did this in order to show respect for all the nations and peoples that lived in Ukrainian ethnic lands, as well as to confirm their freedom and equal rights with the dominant ethnic group.
