Medal of Honour of the Railways (French: Médaille d'honneur des Chemins de fer). It was established on August 19, 1913 to reward employees of the railways of the metropolis, departments and foreign territories, Algeria, as well as other dependent states for long service. During the time that this medal has existed, four models have been developed. This version, the third in chronology, existed from 1954 to 1977.
Description:
Obverse: In the center, there is a left-facing profile of Marianne in a Phrygian cap against the background of railway tracks. On the right and left there are laurel branches, at the bottom in two lines there is an inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE". For four hours, also in two lines, the name of the medalist is Georges Guiraud.
Reverse: an image of a steam locomotive and an electric locomotive framed on the left by a laurel branch. At the bottom there is an area for engraving the name of the awardee and the year of awarding. Circumferential inscription: on the left - MEDAILLE D'HONNEUR, on the right - DES CHEMINS DE FER.
The diameter is 32 mm. The ribbon is 37 mm wide and consists of seven vertical stripes (in the center there is a white stripe on the edges of three stripes in the colors of the French flag).
The engraver is Georges Guiraud.
Made by the Monnaie de Paris - the corresponding mark on the obverse of the medal (the image of the cornucopia and the abbreviation BR).
