He is the author of the textbook "Introduction to Linguistics", which went through several editions. Y. S. Maslov is one of the most significant Russian linguists of the second half of the 20th century, who made a fundamental contribution to general aspectology and Bulgarian studies. The general theoretical views of Y. S. Maslov were reflected in his textbook "Introduction to Linguistics" (1st ed. 1975, 2nd edition, revised and supplemented in 1987, 3rd ed. 1997), which is still considered one of the best theoretical introductions to linguistics for beginners.
