Description:
Postcard "Auburn Automobile - Auto Auburn 8-100 A Custom" (American Legends Series) 2024
The Auburn Automobile Company was spun off from the Eckhart Carriage Company, a horse-drawn carriage company founded in 1875 by Charles Eckhart (1841-1915) in Auburn, Indiana. Eckhart's sons, Frank and Morris, began assembling experimental cars, absorbing two local automakers and building a large factory in 1909. The company had limited success at the outbreak of the First World War, when the plant had to close due to a lack of materials.
In 1927, the company bought the Connersville plant that had previously produced Lexington cars. During the years of the Great Depression, Korda's enterprises, which produced exclusively luxurious and expensive cars, turned out to be unprofitable, which led to the bankruptcy of his holding company. In 1937, production of the Auburn brand, along with the Cord and Duesenberg, was discontinued.
