The M76 Paratrooper helmet is a combat helmet of British origin that is produced for paratroopers and airborne forces of the British Army.
The M76 helmet has been in production since the Falklands War, replacing the Helmet Steel Airborne Troop of World War II. The first variants were made of fiberglass, offering less protection than the Mk6 combat helmet. It also made its first appearance with vinyl/leather chin straps; they were subject to wear and tear, but were later replaced by the previous but sturdy chin straps from HSAT, which would later appear in a green stripe with a black leather pad. Later variants came with the improved ballistic protection found on the Mk6, which is still in use today.
The M76 got a second wind with the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2022. The new helmets, which are made of modern materials and meet all the standards of the NIJ-IIIa class, were provided to units of the Air Assault Forces and the Defense Forces of Ukraine, which underwent training in Great Britain.
