In the past few years, collections of Russian antique icons from the collections of provincial museums have been intensively published. Such is the icon collection of the Uglich Historical and Art Museum, presented for the first time in this book.
Icons from the collection of the Uglich Museum are mainly presented. For the first time, the material is systematized according to the iconographic schools and trends of the XIV-XX centuries. The formation of the collection is traced in the context of historical events associated with the ancient Russian city.
The publication will be indispensable in scientific, research, practical work on Russian icon painting and for all those who are interested in Russian culture and history.

В последние несколько лет интенсивно публикуются собрания русских старинных икон из коллекций провинциальных музеев. Ростов, Ярославль, Вологда, Кириллов, Псков, Муром, Кострома, Рязань, Екатеринбург - таков неполный перечень городов, где хранятся иконы XIII-XVIII веков. Опубликованные теперь в отличных цветных репродукциях, они дают хорошее представление о живописной красоте произведений искусства далекого прошлого. Но исчерпать все российские коллекции икон практически невозможно - по той простой причине, что иконы в крупных собраниях исчисляются тысячами и многие памятники до сих пор ждут часа их раскрытия. Небольшие же коллекции не привлекают внимания издателей и мало известны даже специалистам. Таково иконное собрание Угличского историко-художественного музея, впервые представленное в данной книге.
В основном представлены иконы из собрания Угличского музея. Впервые материал систематизирован по иконописным школам и направлениям XIV-XX веков. Прослежено формирование коллекции в контексте исторических событий, связанных с древним русским городом.
Издание будет незаменимо в научных, исследовательских, практических работах по русской иконописи и для всех тех, кто интересуется отечественной культурой и историей.
