David Iesseevich Chubinashvili (1814 - 1891) was born in Tbilisi, and after the death of his father, from the age of eleven, he was brought up in St. Petersburg, by his uncle N. D. Chubinashvili. He received his secondary education at the Anna School and Gymnasium, and in 1840 he graduated from St. Petersburg University in the Department of Oriental Literature of the Faculty of Philosophy with a Ph.D. degree.
In 1837, while still a student, David Iesseevich compiled the "Georgian-Russian-Latin Dictionary", which included up to 40,000 words; Later, he replaced Latin words with French ones. In 1840, his dictionary was printed by the Academy of Sciences and, having received high praise, was awarded the full Demidov Prize.
For the "Russian-Georgian Dictionary", published in 1848, he was awarded the full Demidov Prize for the second time.
