This monograph gives an intensive-typological characteristic of the Caucasian languages. The state of the Abkhaz-Adyghe and Nakh-Daghestanian languages is basically defined as ergative. If the former are quite close to the standard of ergativity, the latter show a tendency to nominativization. The typology of the Kartvelian languages is qualified as a combination of the currently prevailing nominative component with the features of the active system. It is recommended for Caucasian philologists, philologists dealing with typology, as well as for everyone who is interested in the problems of the Caucasian languages.
