Banana and scotch tape: the work of the Italian artist is planned to be sold at auction for $1.5 million
The art object, created by the Italian visual artist Maurizio Cattelan, was put up for sale at Sotheby's auction. It is planned that they will receive from $1 million to $1.5 million for it.

After winning the auction, the buyer will receive a roll of duct tape and one banana, and the ability to change the Cattelan art object called Comedian. Also, the lot will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, which gives the right to exhibit the work, and also contains detailed instructions for its exhibition.
When artist Maurizio Cattelan taped a fresh banana to a wall at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2019, it immediately sparked outrage. His gallery was soon forced to remove the work as the audience became unruly; within days it became the subject of memes and spoofs.

It is planned that before the start of the bidding scheduled for November 20, the art object will be seen at exhibitions in New York, London, Paris, Milan, Hong Kong, Dubai, Taipei, Tokyo and Los Angeles.
Auctioneers believe that not only connoisseurs of traditional art, but also those collectors who would like to have a very unusual item in their collection will fight for the Comedian.

“Given how this work of art has been able to break through the boundaries of the art world and into the public, pop culture consciousness, it has the potential to spark the interest of really everyone,” said David Halperin, head of contemporary art at Sotheby's USA.
