Art expert and gallery owner Yevgeniya Bilousova – in the studio of “Listen to Violity”

Art expert and gallery owner Yevgeniya Bilousova – in the studio of “Listen to Violity”
The latest episode of the Violity podcast is now available on our YouTube channel. This time, Denys Minin welcomes Yevheniia Bilousova to the studio. She is the director of the NY ART art gallery, located on Hrushevskoho Street in Kyiv.

This exhibition space was created from the private collection of Yevgeniya's father, collector, photographer, and patron of the arts Mykola Pavlovych Bilousov. The gallery has been operating since 2008.
Today, NYU ART not only exhibits and sells paintings, but also provides services for the evaluation and expertise of works of art.
Denys asked Yevheniia about her numerous exhibition projects, the latest trends in the Ukrainian art market and the specifics of its work, as well as the most expensive classical and contemporary Ukrainian artists.

They discussed the power of storytelling and the specifics of selling art to non-experts. They also discussed how men and women purchase works of art and how paintings are similar to expensive clothing.
The guest talked about the role of observation and intuition in identifying fakes, as well as the fact that the results of art expertise are like medical confidentiality. She explained why buying a painting is not always a good investment and advised what to look for when choosing a piece for a collection.
Much attention was also paid to transactions on Violity. Yevgeniya and her colleagues actively sell and buy on our platform, so Denys learned firsthand many of the subtleties and nuances of bidding for lots. What opportunities does the site open up for both professional gallery owners and people who simply need to sell a painting? The guest voices the principle that she considers most important when participating in auctions.
During the conversation, Yevgeniya reflects a lot on regional bias in the art world and talks about her own experience of mitigating it. She has a recipe for how Ukrainian museums can introduce the general public to artists from geographically opposite regions and explains why this is important.
Why can the price tags on two identical still lifes differ tenfold? Where is the line between art and creativity? How can galleries and individual art dealers influence the value of an artist's work? What are the advantages of an open collection over a closed one? All this and much more in this episode.

The new episode of the podcast “Listen to Violity” aired on Wednesday, July 30, at 5:00 p.m. Enjoy watching!
