Today we will premiere the next episode of the Violity podcast, and this time Yurii Shevela, a passionate popularizer of science, collector of optical instruments, measuring devices, sundials, telescopes and other items related to astronomy and astronautics, visited the studio of its host Denys Minin. Earlier, just before the full-scale invasion began, Yuriy had already communicated with Denis. Back then, they talked about science fiction, collecting culture, and the tricks of finding rare artifacts. This meeting was devoted to one aspect of the guest's multifaceted collection - Christmas decorations on the theme of space exploration.
There are a lot of “space” toys in his collection: rare handmade and mass-produced ones, cardboard and cotton, papier-mâché, foam and glass beads, clothespin and hanging, rockets, astronauts, satellites and balloons.
Yurii told us what determines the value of a collectible and how he evaluates his own collection; what toy he unexpectedly received as a gift and what he had to chase after; what he lacks in his collection and what he only dreams about. The collector shares what he is especially grateful to the Violity community for and draws an unexpected parallel between a walk through a flea market and a mushroom hunt.

During the meeting, Denys and his guest talk about childhood New Year's memories and the influence of cats on the frequency of Christmas decor updates. They trace the evolution of the Christmas tree ornament and reflect on who the Soviet “Grandfather Frost” really is. They also discuss the upcoming exhibition that Yurii is currently working on.
