Fashion magazines collector and researcher Krystyna Astaptseva is a guest of the “Listen to Violity"

Fashion magazines collector and researcher Krystyna Astaptseva is a guest of the “Listen to Violity"
It's spring outside, and the Violity PRO Collecting channel has a new episode of the podcast with Denys Minin. This time, the host's guest is a scientist Khrystyna Astapttseva, known to the community as Kristella. She systematically collects and professionally researches Ukrainian fashion publications of the twentieth century.
Our guest started buying fashion magazines when she was a student, studying to become a fashion designer. Later, after receiving her second degree at the Ukrainian Academy of Printing, the press officer made fashion media her research interest.
“In my doctoral dissertation, I decided to prove that Ukrainian fashion journalism in the Soviet Union not only existed, but was ten orders of magnitude higher than Moscow and Leningrad,” says Khrystyna, emphasizing that there are still many prejudices in this area.
It was her research that prompted her to start her own collection of women's magazines. After working at the Vernadsky National Library and the Book Chamber, Khrystyna realized that it was not easy to find such publications: they are often not well catalogued or are subject to write-off.

So, for several years now, the scholar has been searching for materials to work on the Violity, and it's not so much a passion as a need. Some of the rarities were literally rescued from the waste paper warehouse.
The woman is convinced that her collection is an important part of the national cultural heritage and can inspire contemporary Ukrainian designers.
How did our fashion designers create under censorship? How fashion helped Ukrainian women to survive in forced emigration. What distinguishes a person who is well versed in national fashion. What style Khrystyna herself prefers and whether she wants to “dress up” people on the street.
These and many other questions are discussed in a deep and meaningful conversation on the Listen to Violity podcast. The new episode is already on the air. The premiere took place on March 8 at 17:00
