Collector and urban fashion researcher Valeria Stanova in the studio of Listen to Violity
Today is the premiere of the next issue of Listen to Violity. This time, Denys Minin is visited by a collector and restorer Valeria Stanova. For many years she has been researching urban fashion and social life in Ukraine and Europe in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Moreover, she recreates women's outfits from old postcards and photographs, of which she has hundreds in her collection.
Valeriia has been interested in history since childhood, because her native Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, an ancient city known as Akkerman, breathes antiquity. Later, while studying in neighboring Odesa, she became a regular at the Starokonka, where she found many interesting cabinet portraits for her future collection. Now our heroine lives in Kyiv, where she gives lectures on her favorite topic and maintains a popular blog on Instagram.
The guest told Denys about the secret language of flowers and second-hand shops of the past. About what social events really smelled like and how women lived before the end of the Belle Époque. Who would Valeria have become if she had been born in the nineteenth century and why it is really a bad idea to dream about the past.
What were the differences between clothing and everyday life in different regions of Ukraine, how did the First World War affect fashion, and when did children stop dressing like mini-copies of adults? How did courtesans live, what was the working day like for dressmakers, and how much did you have to work to afford a Parisian dress by Charles Worth?
The guest shows five of the most valuable items from her collection, including miraculously preserved antique clothing.

The new episode of Listen to Violity premiered on April 23 at 18:00.  Enjoy the show!
