More than 400 artifacts have been found in the Polish city of Lodz, many of which are related to Judaica. The treasure was discovered in an old house during renovation work. Among the finds are hanukkiahs and menorahs, sacred vessels, fragments of the Talmud, glass bottles and clothing. The items were wrapped in Polish newspapers and were well preserved. The newspapers are dated October 1939, possibly when the cache was made.

First, the workers stumbled upon a chest containing most of the artifacts. Later, archaeologists arrived at the place of discovery of the treasure, they found the rest of the items. The opening coincided with Hanukkah, a Jewish holiday established for the first time since the 2nd century BC. e. The Temple in Jerusalem was freed from idols.

In September 1939, Lodz was occupied by German troops, the city was renamed Litzmanstadt. And in February 1940, the Germans created a ghetto in Lodz, in which more than 150 thousand Jews lived, among them there could be the owner of a hidden treasure. Polish historians, who are now studying artifacts, note that this is one of the largest such finds in Lodz in its entire history. While specialists are putting the treasures in order, in the near future the items may be shown at the exhibition.
