Prince Albert was considered a supporter of progressive sciences and a connoisseur of art. In the photo, he managed to combine it.
The husband of Queen Victoria, before all his contemporaries, managed to see the multifaceted nature and depict it in photographs. This led to the fact that he not only contributed to the development of this type of art, but also collected little by little. He was especially interested in old pictures that could "tell" their stories.
The archive of Prince Albert presents all the photographic achievements of the Victorian era: pictures of theatrical productions, portraits of European monarchs, architectural monuments, soothing pastoral scenes, royal residences, and various compositions of everyday life.
This man believed in photography. In the archive of Prince Albert, there are about 10,000 works collected and commissioned by him from pioneer photographers of the 19th century. Such names as Francis Sally Day, Roger Fenton, Charles Thurston Thompson, George Washington Wilson, Oscar Gustav Reilander and others appear there.
