On June 30, employees of the Khortytsia National Reserve announced on their social media page about a unique find - a one-timbered boat, which is at least 500 years old. This find will be able to "tell" more about the history of the region.
The island of Khortytsia, spread out in the middle of the Dnieper, has long been considered a place of important historical heritage of Ukrainians. Known for its strategic location and key role in the Cossack era, the island has fascinated archaeologists, historians and local residents. A recent find additionally reminded of the connection with the past.
The 6.8-meter-long boat was in the sand under water, and "opened up" because the level of the Dnieper decreased. Its wooden construction shows exceptional craftsmanship, even after prolonged exposure to water.
