Chernivtsi customs officers at the checkpoint "Dyakivtsi - Rakovets" prevented the export from Ukraine of 100 books produced in the 18th-19th centuries, as well as an ancient icon. Two citizens of Ukraine planned to transport these items through the "green corridor".
According to preliminary information, customs officers drew attention to the suspicious behavior of two people who planned to cross the border with Romania. A car carrying two citizens of Ukraine entered the territory of the customs post. The men said that they were traveling from Ukraine on private business.

They chose the "green corridor" lane to cross the border, noting that the items being transported are not subject to written declaration and taxation with customs payments. However, it turned out differently: during the inspection of the luggage, the border guards discovered 100 printed publications dated from the 18th-19th centuries and one icon.
The two men carrying the items claimed they planned to go through a "green corridor" reserved for those with no intention of concealing or altering declared goods. However, there were no permit documents for the right to move books and icons across the state border of Ukraine.

Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation into the origin of these valuables and a possible violation of customs regulations.
This case demonstrates the importance of the control and thorough investigation of ancient objects that may have great cultural and historical value.
