Greek archaeologists have found a previously unknown temple of the goddess Artemis

On the territory of the Greek island of Euboea, archaeologists discovered a temple dedicated to the great goddess Artemis. The importance of this discovery, according to scientists, lies not only in the durability of the building, but also in the discovery of numerous artifacts.

The Temple of Artemis, which is roughly dated to the 7th century BC, is impressive in its size. The total length of the structure was 34 meters, and its architecture testified to the greatness and importance of the cult practices associated with the goddess of hunting and nature.

During the archaeological excavations, numerous artifacts were discovered, including vases, weapons, jewelry, and other items indicating that cult rites were held in this place. The found objects confirm the diversity and richness of ancient Greek culture.

Archaeologists also discovered evidence of a fire that occurred in the second half of the 6th century BC. This indicates that the temple was partially damaged by the destruction, was restored first with mud brick walls, then underwent reconstruction, which led to the almost complete replacement of the old structure with a new one. Excavations also revealed traces of earlier buildings. This was indicated by the found bronze figurines of animals and a terracotta bull head from the Late Bronze Age.

The Greek goddess of hunting, wild lands and animals, patroness and protector of children and women, Artemis was one of the most revered ancient Greek goddesses. Her temple in Ephesus was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Diana, her Roman equivalent, was especially venerated on the Aventine Hill in Rome, near Lake Nemi in the Alban Hills, and in Campania.

Artemis's influence extended to different regions, with numerous cults and festivals dedicated to her, an important part of ancient Greek religious and cultural traditions.
