Archaeologists from the University of Barcelona, as well as groups of researchers from other countries, continue to reveal the secrets of ancient Egypt. This time, it was possible to find the remains of ancient burials where mummies with golden tongues were located.
Researchers from Spain believe that the found artifacts indicate an interesting ritual that was considered traditional in Egyptian society during the Roman period (29 BC - 641 AD).

Special attention of archaeologists was attracted by golden tongues inserted into the mouths of mummies. Inlays made of precious metals, in particular gold, continue to be thoroughly studied. It is noted that such a practice of burial is encountered for the first time, and this allows scientists to draw certain interesting conclusions.
This rite is believed to have originated in the Roman period, when the Egyptians believed that mummies should retain the ability to use their tongues in the underworld.
Gold was considered a special substance associated with divinity, so it symbolized part of the body of the gods. The addition of a golden tongue to this burial shows how deeply beliefs in the interweaving of the spiritual and the material penetrated the culture of that time.

Archaeological excavations of this area continue. However, currently, in addition to the gold overlays on the tongues, other artifacts have also been discovered. Among them were amphorae, which were used to store a variety of things, including food and drink, coins from the Roman period, and jewelry, which scientists believe will help to better understand the religious and cultural practices of the time.
