A stroll through social networks recently led me to the page of one interesting lady, journalist and Pilates instructor Christen Pears (Christen Pears). Today she lives in Cornwall (England), where she moved from Bermuda. A lover of Scandinavian furniture, Pierce redesigned an old 18th-century cottage to give it a modern look.
One place interested me the most, and if not for it, Kristen Pierce would have been forgotten by me. We are talking about bookshelves filled with old paperback books from the world famous British publisher Penguin Books. It is thanks to this publishing house that the book around the world has ceased to be a luxury item, it has gained access to the broad masses. Previously, everything that was printed in this format was of poor quality, starting with the content and ending with the appearance of the publication. With the entry of Penguin Books into the market, it became clear that good literature, including classics, not only looks great in paper cover, but is also extremely in demand, since such books are convenient to take with you on a trip, it is not a pity to lose them. And, of course, due to the low cost, poetry and prose could now be enjoyed by everyone who until then could not afford it.
Kristen Pierce is still adding to her collection of hundreds of pieces. In the home library, you can find series that came out in different years and designed in different styles, but they have one thing in common - the same image of a penguin on the spine. New Penguin Shakespeare, Penguin Crime, Penguin Modern Poets - books from these and other cycles still attract readers in this form. Although there have already been fresh reprints of the classics, and modern literature abounds, Penguin Books fans will always notice the familiar minimalist cover and purchase the vintage edition.
