Aureus of Antoninus Pius

Aureus of Antoninus Pius
Violity is a valuable source of authentic ancient Roman coins. The territory of modern Ukraine in the 3rd-4th centuries was the core of the Proto-Gothic state. Therefore, all the booty captured in the campaigns and the tribute received from Rome in the form of golden coins - aureuses remained in our land. Today's publication is dedicated to the aureus minted during the reign of Emperor Antoninus Pius, which served as an ornament even in ancient times.
The Goths believed that whoever wore an ornament with the image of the Roman emperor could acquire the same intelligence and strength as the Roman Caesar. Antoninus earned the nickname Pius (pious) for his nobility and worthy deeds for the good of the empire.
He came from an aristocratic family, and with dignity passed through many rungs of the career ladder of the empire. He was a confidant of Emperor Hadrian, after the death of the emperor's heir Aelius Verus, he was proclaimed the successor of Hadrian. He was married to Faustina, who is known to historians and collectors as Faustina the Elder, of the four children of the imperial family, only the daughter Faustina (the younger) survived. After being proclaimed emperor, he pursued a wise and balanced policy that led to the flourishing of the economy in the provinces, promoted the development of legal relations, and carried out reasonable reforms of legal relations. The foreign policy course of the emperor's reign was peaceful, but several campaigns are known, one of which was the conquest of Southern Scotland. During the time of Antoninus Pius, there was an exchange of embassies with China (from Chinese historical chronicles he is known as Emperor An-Tung), as well as the first visit of the Romans to the island of Ceylon (Taproban). The emperor was succeeded by his son-in-law and husband of Faustina the Younger, Marcus Aurelius. The course of the emperor's reign was peaceful, but several campaigns are known, one of which was the conquest of Southern Scotland.
