The work of the French artist, one of the founders of impressionism, Claude Monet, will be put up for public auction at Christie's new headquarters. The auction will take place on September 26 in Hong Kong.
One of the artist's first works, created 125 years ago, is being put up for public auction for the first time. It is dedicated to a theme that later became central to Monet's work.
"Water Lilies" were in the artist's family for a long time and were handed down. They were later purchased by a private collector.
Of the eight paintings in the series of the same name, four are known to be in museums around the world: at the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris, the Los Angeles Museum of Art, the Kagoshima City Museum of Art, and the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome.

The estimated value of the painting, which will be auctioned in Hong Kong, is between 200 and 280 million Hong Kong dollars.
"This is one of the few rare works from the first series of Water Lilies that is still in a private collection, while other works from the series are in museums around the world," said Cristian Albu, Deputy Chair and Head of XX-XXI Century Art at Christie's Asia Pacific.
