A rare first edition book about the adventures of a boy wizard was sold at an auction by Hansons Auctioneers for £36,000.
The previous owner of this copy bought it for her son in 1997. At that time, the book's price in a bookstore in Stratford-upon-Avon was £10.

Englishwoman Christine McCulloch learned about the value of what was stored at home for a long time during the 2020 quarantine. It was then that the woman saw a story about how much first editions of Harry Potter can cost.
The expected cost of the publication was £30,000 - £50,000. However, the final bid was £36,000. The total amount spent by the seller with the auction house's commission was £45,000.

The first edition of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" by J.K. Rowling was released back in 1997 with a circulation of 500 copies. 200 of them "dispersed" in bookstores, 300 - found their place in libraries.
