Seemingly an ordinary chocolate bar, produced during the reign of Queen Victoria, in a tin box, manufactured by the British company Rowntree, what could possibly go wrong? Years older than all of us reading this, this 122-year-old chocolate bar had been lying in an attic in Lincolnshire. It was unearthed among the trash and sold for $563 in equivalent currency at that time's exchange rate.
The buyer's interest was sparked not only by the fact that it was an artifact of confectionery but also by its historical value. The chocolate was made during the Second Anglo-Boer War when the Queen decided to send chocolate to soldiers fighting for control over the territory of South Africa.
