Swordfish is a British deck torpedo-bomber-biplane, the brainchild of Fairey Aviation Company.

Its first flight took place in April 1934. During World War II it was in service with the Royal Air Force of Great Britain and a number of other countries.

The total water tonnage of ships and vessels sunk by "Sordfish" is more than that of any other Allied ship. This result seems surprising, because this biplane was considered obsolete. Because of the archaic design, it was even nicknamed Stringbag.

The most famous episodes involving the airplane are the attack on one of the most important naval bases of the Royal Italian Navy, Taranto, and the brilliant attack on the Bismarck, which ended with the destruction of the German battleship. It is this episode is depicted on the box of the scale model.
Its history is also interesting. Developed in 1973 by the British firm Frog, the model was quite popular in the country's market. Within a year, its total circulation amounted to 55,000 copies.

Soon the manufacturer went bankrupt, its molds were transferred to the USSR, where Frog models were produced under the Novo brand and exported to the United Kingdom. The tooling was distributed among Soviet enterprises, in particular, it ended up at a toy factory in the Ukrainian city of Donetsk. About 100,000 units of Swordfish Mk.I Torpedo Plane were produced there in the following years.
