A worn first library version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was recently sold at an auction in England. This book was removed from the library due to poor condition and was sold for 38 cents at a book sale.

Published by Bloomsbury in 1997 with a laminated cardboard cover. In total, only 500 first editions were produced, and of these, only 300 were sent to libraries.
The book was originally loaned to the Ulverhampton Library in England before being withdrawn due to its "extraordinary condition".
"We are absolutely delighted with this result," said auctioneer Richard Winterton, who completed the sale on July 10.

The sale attracted international interest and the winning bid was placed online from Los Angeles. Due to the worn condition of the book as from a former library, the initial estimate was between $4,000 and $6,500.
