
Recently, the archaeologists of the Templo Mayor project, led by Leonardo López Luján, announced an amazing find that takes us back to the reign of Moctezuma Ilvicamina (1440-1469 AD).
It is a stone chest filled with marine treasures and green stone sculptures.

Detailed surveys carried out from January to July 2023 by the archaeological team revealed a ritual storage site called "Offering 186" (Ofrenda 186).

It contains 14 male anthropomorphic sculptures and a miniature female figurine, all carved from green metamorphic stones. The largest sculpture has a height of 30 centimeters, while the female one is only 3 centimeters.

Along with these sculptures, "Offering 186" includes two rattlesnake-shaped earrings and 137 beads made from various green metamorphic stones, as well as sea sand and 1942 limestone objects, including shells, clams and corals.

"These items were probably brought from the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, conquered by the Triple Alliance during the time of the first Moctezuma, Moctezuma Ilvikamina," says Lopez Luján.
