
An original painting by N. S. Wyeth, discovered by chance in a New Hampshire salvage store six years ago and forgotten in a closet, is now the highlight of September at Bonhams Skinner auction house.

This long-forgotten painting was written by N.S. Wyeth, a prolific Maine artist and patriarch of the Wyeth family, renowned artists. The painting, which stands out among works at Bonhams Skinner's "American Art" auction on September 19, is one of four he completed for Helen Hunt Jackson's "Ramona," originally published in 1884, according to an expert at Bonhams Skinner.

Last May, while doing some spring cleaning, the painting was rediscovered and photos of it were posted on Facebook. The comments on her post prompted the woman to turn to an expert who has worked with three generations of Wyeth: N.C. Wyeth, his son Andrey Wyeth and his grandson Jamie Wyeth.
Expert Lauren Lewis was "99% confident of its authenticity" after viewing the painting, she told The Boston Globe.
