
September 17, Pergola, Italy - At an international conference on the work of Raphael Santi, held in the city in the central Italian province of Pesaro, experts announced a startling discovery - a new painting by Raphael depicting Mary Magdalene.

This work of art, which depicts the face of Chiara Fancelli, wife of the artist Perugino, was painted on a thin poplar board measuring 46 cm by 34 cm. It dates from 1504 and is in a private foreign collection. The attribution of this painting to the Renaissance master was made by many scientists gathered at the conference.
This discovery is worth talking about as a significant moment in art history, which rounds out new dimensions in the study of Raphael’s work and his time, his era.
