Preserving the past for the future: Google and Skeiron virtual museum of architectural monuments
Google experts and the Skeiron team launched a virtual museum designed to preserve architectural monuments in digital form, with the ultimate goal of contributing to their restoration after the victory in the war. This initiative is a combination of advanced technologies and the desire to preserve the history of Ukraine for future generations.

Architectural structures have always been a part of human civilization, offering a glimpse into the artistic, technological and cultural achievements of different societies. However, many of these structures today face serious threats of extinction. Losing these treasures not only deprives us of history, but also prevents future generations from appreciating the genius of their predecessors.
The collaboration between Google and Skeiron aims to restore and preserve historical monuments in a virtual museum, where they try to preserve them digitally. To create 3D models of Ukrainian monuments, the developers used laser scanning technology and photogrammetry - methods that help to record the geometry and colors of 3D objects.

Carefully created digital copies of buildings are kept in this virtual space. Through a combination of high-resolution images, 3D models and interactive displays, visitors have the opportunity to explore these cultural treasures in incredible detail right from their homes or local museums.
Last year, more than 40 digital artifacts were presented at a virtual exhibition called "Ukraine is near". Currently, 78 such objects are available in the gallery.

While the existence of a virtual museum is an incredible achievement in itself, its ultimate goal goes beyond simple digital preservation. Digital records and 3D models created within the framework of this project will serve as virtual guides for architects, historians and restorers. Such an archive allows you to accurately reproduce damaged or lost architectural objects.
By preserving our architectural heritage in digital form, we not only preserve our past, but also provide future generations with the tools to restore what has been lost.
