Giant Serpent Head Sculpture – Aztec Artifact Found After 2022 Earthquake
Last year's earthquake in Mexico City was a huge tragedy. Seismic activity damaged the building of the Faculty of Law of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, but helped researchers find an unexpected Aztec artifact.

The snake sculpture was 1.8 meters long, 0.85 meters wide and 1 meter high and weighed about 1.3 tons. The researchers noted that several colors were preserved on the surface - red, blue, black and white. The percentage of their preservation on the surface was approximately 80%. In order to remove the sculpture in its colored form, archaeologists had to build a special chamber around it.

Some researchers suggest that this sculpture may have been part of a forgotten Aztec temple or an important ceremonial site. This people is known to have built temples and pyramids and worshiped many deities, including Quetzalcoatl, who was often depicted as a snake.

The study of this extraordinary artifact is still ongoing. The Mexican government and various cultural and scientific institutions have pledged to support further research on the artifact.
