The Central Bank of Great Britain presented new banknotes with the image of the current monarch of the country, Charles III. It is assumed that 5, 10, 20 and 50 sterling banknotes will be put into circulation on June 5, 2024.
The peculiarity of the new polymer banknotes is that the image of the monarch was changed on them for the first time. Before that, Queen Elizabeth II was the only British monarch whose image appeared on England's banknotes since 1960. The design of the new notes is inspired by a photograph of the king taken in 2013.

According to the Bank of England representatives, the new banknotes will be printed to replace those that have already worn out, or those whose number requires an increase.
"Our approach is in line with the Royal Court's guidelines aimed at minimizing the environmental and financial consequences of these changes," the national bank explained in a statement.
This is fully in line with Charles III's views on sustainable development and nature conservation.
