Norway is considered a country steeped in Viking history. Another unexpected find proves it: a married couple - Oddbjorn Holum Heiland and his wife Anna came across an ancient sword buried on the territory of their farm.
Fortunately, when the couple started building their house, they noticed something strange in the excavated earth. At first it was a stone. The owner of the house was not very surprised by this and continued to remove the soil layer by layer. However, when he came across something iron, it already surprised him. Outwardly, the object resembled a sword blade. Later, a handle was also found in the ground.
Surprised by their unexpected discovery, Oddbjorn Holum Heiland, together with his wife Anna, immediately reported it to the local authorities. Archaeologists arrived at the site of the find, who reported that it was probably a burial from the Viking era. And the objects that were found in it also belong to these times.
The two parts of the sword that were found indicate that the length of this weapon was approximately 70 cm, and the blade at its widest point - 5 cm. Based on the appearance of the hilt, scientists suggested that this could indeed be a Viking era sword.
Swords were not only weapons, but also a status symbol and an integral part of Viking culture. They were created with extraordinary craftsmanship and included intricate designs, engravings and personalization. Warriors who wielded these swords were revered in Viking society, as the weapon symbolized their social standing, honor, and prowess on the battlefield.
