Australian surfer Matt Cuddihy, an ocean explorer, accidentally discovered a rare vintage Rolex watch in the Pacific Ocean near Noosa, Queensland.

During his usual snorkelling, Matt noticed an unusual amount of rocks that were partly visible due to shifting sand. Looking around, he found a watch, the strap of which was stuck under one of the stones.

It turned out that it was a Rolex Submariner 5513, produced between 1960 and 1980. Matt was shocked at his luck, although at first he thought it might be a fake model made in Bali.

He rinsed the watch with fresh water to remove sand and debris, but noticed that it had an unpleasant odor. The bezel of the watch was badly corroded, and the crown stuck.
However, the clock kept running! After the discovery, Matt decided to send them for examination to specialists in order to assess their value and authenticity.
