The discovery was made during excavations at House C, part of the palace complex built by the great ruler Pakal, the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) said.
The nose decoration was made from a part of a human distal tibia and engraved with a scene expressing communication with gods and ancestors.

The nose piece discovered by researchers was part of a ritual hoard that has been dated to the late Classic period (between 600 and 850 AD) of Mesoamerican history.
