Reviving history: a Zhytomyr architect created a 3D model of the ruined palace of Baron de Chaudoire
A talented architect from Zhytomyr, Maksym Gordiychuk, breathed new life into the ruins of Ivan Maksimilianovich's Baron de Chaudoire palace with the help of 3D modeling technology. This extraordinary project not only revives a part of forgotten history, but also demonstrates the potential of modern technologies to resurrect the past.

Ivan Maksimilianovych Shoduar Palace, located in Zhytomyr in the city park, has long become a symbol of faded grandeur. Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the palace was known not only for its architectural grandeur, but also for its collection of paintings, library, antique furniture, etc.
In 1908, Ivan Maksimilianovych donated part of his collection to the State Historical Museum - 92 valuable Old Slavic old prints. Archaeological artifacts of Bosporan and Olvian origin were also sold to the Imperial Hermitage by Stanislav de Chaudoire, and his wife Lucy transferred the inherited numismatic collection along with medals to the British Museum in London.

Unfortunately, during the Bolshevik rebellion and the death of the owner, the palace fell into the hands of the Soviet authorities. In May 1919, the Bolsheviks transferred paintings from the collection of de Chaudoire to the Volyn Central Museum - works of the Baroque, Rococo, and Enlightenment eras. During the transfer of funds to various museums in Kyiv and Kharkiv, engravings and a collection of oriental monuments were lost.
During the World War II occupation, German troops looted the palace, and what remained was gradually transferred to other buildings in the city. During the liberation of Zhytomyr in 1943, the palace building was badly damaged. And although it could be restored, what remained was demolished in 1951.

At the beginning of 2016, a basement was discovered under the place where the stable was located. The surviving part of the first floor of the palace is occupied by the park administration. A part of the northern capital fence has also been preserved.
Currently, a stand with augmented reality has been installed in the Baron de Chaudoire park, where the palace was once located, and a 3D model of the destroyed building has also been created. This is one of the stages of implementation of the grant project "Virtual 3D restoration of destroyed monuments of Zhytomyr region and installation of stands with their augmented reality", which is financed by the National Endowment for Democracy, USA.

The 3D model of the palace of the Baron de Chaudoire, created by Maksym Gordiychuk, allows you to recreate the past. Using state-of-the-art technology, he painstakingly recreated the palace, combining historical records, architectural drawings and on-site observations. The resulting digital model allows viewers to explore the palace from all sides.
3D modeling technologies allow historians, architects and the general public to become interested in and appreciate the beauty of a bygone era. This project demonstrates the power of technology to bridge the gap between past and present, ensuring that historical treasures are not lost to time.
